The play probes into the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie's daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect—and sensitivity—whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea. As the play begins, Dorothea has suffered a stroke, and while Echo has reestablished contact with her mother, it is only through extended telephone conversations, during which real issues are skirted and their talk is mostly about the precocious Echo's single-minded domination of a national spelling contest. But, in the end, after Dorothea's death, both Artie and Echo come to accept their mutual need and summon the courage to try, at last, to build a life together—despite the risks and terrors that this holds for both of them after so many years of alienation and estrangement.

When asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” how many kids say they want to play the cello in a major orchestra with a famous conductor and travel the world? But that’s what happened to cellist Yvonne Caruthers, originally from Spokane, WA. “I didn’t grow up in a family of musicians, I grew up in a family that went backpacking in the North Cascade mountains. We skinny-dipped in icy cold lakes, caught fish for breakfast, and watched baby mountain goats frolic in snowfields. No wonder my peers in music school thought I was.....different.”
In Search of the Perfect G-String is based on Yvonne’s life experiences. And what a life it’s been---from student days at Tanglewood to great concert halls around the world, interspersed, of course, with countless hours in lonely practice rooms, which also gave her time to speculate on (ahem), ‘personal’ items. “At first I thought I’d assemble my stories into a book, but the publishing world has gotten increasingly complicated in the past few years, so I put the project on hold. One day it occurred to me that these stories could come to life onstage, which is, after all, where I spend a good deal of time.”
In Search of the Perfect G-String debuted at the DC Fringe Festival in 2013, and the Kennedy Center in 2014. Don’t miss it!

Join in the antics of “Ole & Lena at the State Fair”
The calendar has finally turned over to Ole’s favorite event of the year - State Fair time. Unfortunately, Lena doesn’t share Ole’s excitement. For years Lena has been in countless competitions with her arch rival Elaine Danielson, always battling, only to end up with a tie for the coveted blue ribbons. But this year Lena has a new trick up her sleeve that she’s sure will tip the balance in her favor.
Ole, on the other hand, has his own fair surprise this year. Ole heard on CCO that Sweet Martha makes a truck load of money at the fair so Ole and Sven have decided their going to turn the Fair into a money making operation with a food stand of their own. Their goal is to come up with something they can stuff on a stick and get them on TV with Frank and Amelia.
But when it comes time for the leave for the Fair, Lena is nowhere to be found. Can Ole find Lena in time to spring her surprise on arch nemesis Elaine? Join in the fun as Ole and Lena turn the State Fair upside down with laughter.
As the audience quiets and the lights come up, the real-life husband and wife acting team of Michael and Julie Bateson bring the loveable and universally known Scandinavian couple, Ole and Lena, to life in one of their wonderfully interactive plays or hilarious sketches. The Bateson’s have been performing Ole and Lena for over 10 years for a wide variety of groups and theatre audiences across the upper Midwest.
Ole and Lena’s home spun humor strikes a chord with a wide variety audiences of all ages.
